A soft pink-coloured neckpiece will make a style statement when worn with a little black dress. Do not be afraid to experiment as it is not just the regular gold or silver jewellery that designers offer today but a gamut of stone jewellery in various soft-tones.

Essentially, one looks for a piece which can be paired up with almost everything - from a saree to a gown. But the trend is changing now. With the influence of western clothing, a lot of youngsters and even their parents are opting for pastel jewellery. Though this jewellery has been around since quite some time, it is only now the trend of pairing it with winter clothing has been catching up.

“This is also due to the fact that pastel jewellery is more accessible to people now,” says Prernaa Makhariaa from Tara Jewellers. Whereas Tarang Arora from Amrapali Jewels informs, “Pastel jewellery is a very European concept.” One can often spot Hollywood celebrities or western brands sporting pastel jewellery. Even the Emmy Awards last month were ruled by pastel colours.

Fuchsia pink, teal blue, mint green, lemon yellow and caramel orange are the shades that are tagged as ‘pastel’ and people are readily experimenting with all these as they accentuate their softer side and make a perfect accessory for a relaxing picnic or casual dinner party.

“People like to both complement and contrast these shades with their dresses. For instance, a blue or a pink stone neckpiece will look pretty with a little black dress,” suggests Prernaa.

Those who do not like bold tones or shocking fluorescents, can flatter their feminine side with these subdued shades. Available in different stones and cuts, these pastel hues are wearable at almost every time of the day. While a rose or quartz ring will stand out at dinner, an aqua luxe necklace or bracelet will look trendy during the day.

“White onyx, moonstone, carnelians and opals can also be good options for pastel jewellery,” shares Tarang who believes in combining tradition with modernity. "We are combining pastel shades with jadau jewellery. Pastel is a very retro trend which is coming back in fashion now and since people are becoming more fashion conscious, they are going for pastel jewellery with traditional outfits too.”

While styling the pastel jewellery, however, one must keep in mind to not to pair it with bright or neon clothes but with denim, khaki, white, cream or blush tones. These elegant accessories can be flaunted with both flowing daytime dresses or classic linen shirt and denim shorts.
