At the age of 39, he is perhaps old since 60 per cent of the country’s population comprises those below 40.

Addressing a press conference here, Rahul said he was neither a leader nor a member of youth Congress or the NSUI. His role was that of a catalyst, just an enabler facilitating enhanced participation and empowerment of youth, he said.

He arrived in Jaipur during his two-day visit to Rajasthan to give impetus to Congress party’s “efforts to unearth new youth leadership though internal democracy”. During his whirlwind tour to Sawai Madhopur, Kota, Jodhpur, Bikaner and Jaipur, he addressed a number of youth groups and school children. When asked will those with political background or resources continue to have an edge in politics, Rahul could not emphatically affirm that his whole exercise aimed at “internal democracy” will be fully successful. He said a lot of new faces, without any political backing had won elections in Punjab, Gujarat and Tamilnadu.

Evading questions on the Liberhan Commission’s report leak, Rahul focused more on questions pertaining to participation of youth. He said it was not an event but a process and by the next second or third elections, the change will be visible.
