Residents thrash 'killer' driver

Situation turned violent at Gangondanahalli in Chandra Layout on Friday night after a large number of local residents stoned a goods vehicle and attacked its driver allegedly for causing an accident killing a six-year-old girl on the spot. 

Local police and senior officers rushed to the spot, pacified the angry residents, deployed additional force and brought the situation under control.

A goods vehicle driver lost control over the vehicle after it developed some technical snag and crashed into two autorickshaws and a bike. Later it mowed down Mehroon Taj, who was playing in front of her house. She sustained grievous injuries and died on the spot, said the police.

On learning about the accident, a large number of residents rushed to the spot and thrashed the driver. Later, they stoned the goods vehicle. Situation was returned to normalcy after the police intervened. The police took the driver into custody. 

Mehroon was the daughter of Salawuddin and was studying at Vidya Sagar School, added the police.
