SP MLA thrashes official

Last Updated 11 January 2014, 20:01 IST

Caring little for the repeated warnings by the party leadership, a Samajwadi Party (SP) legislator, who has criminal antecedents, thrashed a revenue official in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahar district, about 450 kilometers from here, allegedly after the latter refused to pay ‘protection money’ to the goons of the MLA.

The revenue official Jaiveer Singh, who was posted at Dibai tehsil in the district, has lodged a complaint with the police accusing the MLA Sribhagwan Sharma alias Guddu Pandit of assaulting and threatening him with life after he refused to pay ‘protection money’ demanded by him.

Singh has alleged in his complaint that the goons of the MLA charged him with ‘earning huge amount of money in bribes’ and demanded that they be given a ‘share’ of the same. “When I denied having earned any money illegally and refused to pay them anything, the MLA put a revolver at my temple and threatened to shoot me,” the official alleged further.

Pandit, who has a long criminal past, had earlier hit the headlines after his name had cropped up in a case of stalking, sexually exploiting and threatening a  research scholar after she insisted on marrying him following a love affair. He was also arrested in the case in 2008. Pandit was then a BSP legislator and had crossed over to the SP in 2012.The MLA, however, has rubbished the allegations.
