BMTC bus mows down AP cloth merchant

A cloth merchant and a goods vehicle driver have been killed in separate accidents in the City since Saturday evening.

Allah Bakash, 45, a cloth merchant from Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh, was mowed down by a speeding BMTC bus on Sampige Road near 11th Cross in Malleswaram on Saturday evening. Bakash was in the City to sell sarees.

On Saturday afternoon, he had visited some textile shops in Malleswaram and was crossing the road when a speeding BMTC bus struck him.

He suffered severe head injury and was rushed to Nimhans. Sources in the police said that he succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of Sunday. 

Driver killed

In another incident, the driver of a goods vehicle was killed on the spot after a speeding sports utility vehicle (SUV) rammed his vehicle on the Outer Ring Road in Bhadrappa Layout in the early hours of Sunday. 

Police said Rudramuni, 24, was a native of Hiriyur in Chitradurga district. 

The accident occurred after the SUV swerved onto the main road and rammed the goods vehicle. Rudramuni sdied of grievous head injury. The SUV driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the spot.

Elderly woman run over

An elderly woman was mowed down by a locomotive at the City railway station on Sunday morning. Nagamma, 60, a native of Chikkakallubala village in Kanakapura taluk, had come to the City to visit her daughter. 

On Sunday morning, around 8 am, she was crossing the railway tracks to reach platform 2 when a locomotive coming from the opposite direction rammed her. Though she was rushed to a nearby hospital she was declared dead on arrival. 
Body found

In another incident, the body of an unidentified man was found next to the railway tracks between Hejjala and Kengeri in the early hours of Sunday. The deceased was aged between 35 and 40.

The body was shifted to Victoria Hospital. A senior railway official said there were injury marks on the face and abdomen. 

It is suspected that he might have fallen off from a moving train. “It could be an accident or a case of suicide,” the official added. 

Newlywed man ends life

A newlywed man was found hanging at his house in Devarachikkanahalli on Saturday night. Manjunath, 24, an employee of a private firm, had married his girlfriend three months ago, amidst opposition from his family. 

Sources in the police said Manjunath’s wife had gone to her elder sister’s wedding a week ago and hadn’t returned home. Police suspect that Manjunath might have ended his life over the issue. 

However, Manjunath’s family alleged that his wife and family killed him and have made it appear like a suicide. Madiwala police have registered a case of unnatural death.
