Medical shop owner, auto driver found murdered

Two men – a medical shop owner and an auto driver - were murdered in City, in separate incidents, on Sunday night. 

Kumaravelu alias Saiguru, 45, was found dead with his throat slit in his medical shop on Lakshmana Mudaliar Street. A resident of Shivajinagar, he owned a commercial complex where he ran Bharani Medicals. 

His father Jagadeeshwaran, in his complaint, has stated that he visited the shop once at around 8 pm and found Kumaravelu in the shop. Kumaravelu used to close the shop at 10 pm to return home. When he did not turn up even after 11 pm, Jagadeeshwaran tried to reach him on his mobile phone, but there was no response. He walked up to the shop only to find the shutters down. On opening the shutters, he found Kumaravelu lying in a pool of blood with his throat slit. 

Commercial Street police shifted the body to Bowring Hospital where post mortem was conducted on Monday morning. Police said prima facie the crime appears to be a murder for gain as two gold chains, two gold finger rings and cash were missing. Additional Commissioner (Law and order) Kamal Pant said special team has been formed for the purpose. 

Stabbed to death

In another incident, Riyaz Baig, 27, was found lying bleeding with a stab injury on his back, on the roadside in Shadabnagar, DJ Halli by night patrol policemen.

He was rushed to Dr B R Ambedkar Medical College and Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Monday.

Riyaz, an auto driver went out with his friends at around 11 pm.

Police suspect the two friends behind the death, and have launched a search for them. DJ Halli police have registered a case.
