Udupi college suspends girl over Facebook row

Last Updated 13 January 2014, 20:14 IST

The girl whose pictures in semi-nude posture, along with her boyfriend, was posted on Facebook has been kept under suspension by her college. The photographs were allegedly posted by her boyfriend on Facebook.

Poornaprajna College principal K Sadashiv Rao told Deccan Herald that the girl was suspended by the college on January 9, when it realised that the incident had taken place with her knowledge and consent.

“It is not a case of kidnapping in which the victim can claim innocence. It has taken place with her consent. The college had to take action following her involvement in such an act. If the college fails to take action against her, it becomes a bad precedent for other students.”

“They might feel that they can do anything and get away with it. She is suspended for not maintaining the dignity and decorum of the college. The decision was taken in consultation with the college management. The suspension order does not carry the number of days,” he said.

The very next day, her mother came to the college office and she was informed about the matter. The mother had no objection as she felt that her daughter is not in a position to attend college.

She was also told that the girl would be permitted to attend college if she gives an undertaking that she would concentrate on studies and maintain the dignity of the college, henceforth. She should also give explanation over her behaviour, he said.
