CPM ready to induct BJP rebels

Last Updated 25 January 2014, 20:31 IST

Even as the CPM cleared decks to welcome a group of BJP dissidents into its fold in Kannur district, its tallest leader in Kerala – V S Achuthanandan – has opposed the move. The CPM is set to formalise the alliance with members of NaMo Vichar Manch, a group of BJP rebels in the district, at a function scheduled at Panoor on January 28.

O K Vasu, BJP’s former district president, are among hundreds of NaMo Vichar Manch activists who are set to join the CPM at the function that is also expected to be attended by the party's state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan. Achuthanandan, however, is not amused. Speaking with reporters on Friday, the Leader of the Opposition asked his party to be cautious ahead of the alliance.

“The members of the NaMo Vichar Manch come with the baggage of allegiance with Narendra Modi. The people will closely watch any move by the party to align with these opportunists,” he said.
