Karthikeyan named best athlete; ONGC win overall title

B Karthikeyan of HPCL bagged the best athlete award on the completion of the three-day PSPB inter-unit athletics meet held here at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium on Thursday.

After pocketing the 100 metre gold on the opening day of the event, he took the 200 metre silver with a time of 22.2 seconds on Thursday. ONGC’s Binu Aquito took the gold, stopping the clock 0.3 seconds earlier.

In the team championships, ONGC emerged winner with 103 points, dwarfing the total of the second placed HPCL -- 57. Arpinder Singh of ONGC walked away with the individual champion award after finishing first in both the men’s long jump as well as the triple jump.
