Auto driver Arjun’s honesty won accolades from none other than the Commissioner of Police Shankar Bidari, who rewarded him with a certificate and a cheque of Rs 5,000.

Police said a couple had boarded the autorickshaw at Banashankari 2nd Stage on Friday and got down at ISKCON Temple near Rajajinagar. The couple did not notice that they had left behind their leather bag. The 30-year-old auto driver noticed the bag only after he had travelled a few kilometres away.

On checking, he found the bag contained two gold necklaces, ten gold bangles, one chain, a pendant, a black-stone necklace, a camera and Rs 995. The auto driver then consulted his younger brother and brother-in-law, who works in MICO, and decided to hand over the valuables. They drove to the CoP office at Infantry Road and handed over the bag to the officials there, who in turn informed Shankar Bidari about it.

The woman who lost her belongings was identified on Saturday as Rajalakshmi Nalluru. Shankar Bidari handed over the bag to the woman when she come to the office with her relative and honoured the auto driver.
