Nostalgic moments with dear ones

The annual MS Ramaiah Institute of Management alumni meet for the academic year 2013-14 was held in a City hotel recently.

Over 140 alumni members from various batches attended the meet, which proved to be a great occasion for them to network with their classmates, juniors and seniors.

This was also an opportunity for the ex-students to interact with the faculty and staff of the college, revisiting old memories and strengthening their bond with their Alma Mater.

The evening began with speeches by dean H Muralidharan, academic head Narayanan, chairperson of placements Purnima Ramaswamy and head of corporate relations and placements Srikanth Payal.

This was made even more pleasant with a programme of games and cultural events conducted by students of the current batch, which was highly appreciated by the gathering. Of course, it wasn’t only the alumni who saw the changes in the college since their graduation — even the current batches who were involved in organising the meet had a meaningful interaction with the alumni, who shared interesting stories of their bygone campus days.

But the highlight of the day was the awards ceremony conducted by Professor Meghna Verma, faculty in-charge of the Alumni Association.

Among the awardees was Gladwin Thomas, a gold medalist from the 1995-97 batch who was conferred the award of the ‘Distinguished Alumnus of the Year 2014’. Prashant Updhyay from the 2006-08 batch was conferred the award of ‘Young Achiever Alumnus’ and even offered to initiate placements for the MSRIM students in Axis Bank, where he is currently the senior manager.

“MSRIM has indeed helped lead me towards a very bright life from the dark, in keeping with the college logo of Tamaso ma jyotir gamaya,” said Prashant in his acceptance speech.

Around 80 students from the college’s placement and alumni committee were actively involved in making all the arrangements and preparations for the event.

And their efforts certainly did not go unappreciated. Pravati, an alumnus from the 2007-09 batch who is currently a lecturer in another Bangalore college, said, “It feels great to be back and meet old friends and teachers. The programme was very well organised and made us feel really special.”

The vote of thanks for the event was proposed by Srikanth Payal. The event concluded after a sumptuous dinner, which was followed by a group photograph.
