Last Updated 29 November 2009, 16:45 IST

Meanwhile seat aspirant from JDS Shanthu Appaiah will withdraw from the race as Congress and JDS parties have decided to join hands to fight the election at several constituencies in the State. It is almost sure that former MLC S G Medappa will be the candidate from BJP as his name has already been registered in the list.

John will file his nomination papers at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office here on December 1 at 10.30 am. It is certain that there will be a straight fight between T John and S G Medappa. Hence, people are eager to watch the strategies both parties would adopt in the election. Medappa had won from the constituency in the election held after the then MLC C S Arun resigned from the post to contest for Virajpet Vidhan Sabha constituency in 2008. Medappa had defeated Congress-JDS candidate Mittu Changappa in the election held on October 31, 2008. Now the election is being held in the constituency as Medappa’s term ends on January 5.

It can be recalled here that T John, who was a minister in S M Krishna cabinet in the State, was sacked by the Congress High Command for giving a controversial statement with regard to Gujarath earthquake. An industrialist, John is capable of facing the election. Moreover, the support of JDS too will become blessing for John to come back to the active politics. Altogether, the election to be held on December 18 will arouse interest of people.

The political scenario is entirely different compared to previous elections. All Congress workers will have to strive unitedly to bag the seat. While former Congress leader B A Jeevijaya is in JDS, C S Arun Machaiah, a JDS leader, is in Congress. Hence, leaders from both parties should join hands for the victory of coalition candidate.

Meanwhile, as two MLAs from the district are from BJP, Medappa has more hopes of victory. Similarly, BJP leaders also are gearing up to putting more efforts.
