Siteless to stage protest in Kalasa on February 26

Last Updated 12 February 2014, 16:49 IST

The CPI and other organisations that have been fighting in village level for providing sites and houses to siteless, have now decided to intensify the fight and take it to district-level by this month end.

Speaking at a meeting of the siteless at Sriraksha hall recently, CPI Taluk Secretary Gopal N Shetty said that thousands of siteless people from Kalasa hobli and other places have been fighting for their rights from two years.

Despite staging several protests and organising programmes, the government has failed to respond to the plea. Therefore, a huge protest will be staged in front of the deputy commissioner’s office on February 26, he said.

Siteless from Kalasa will carry out a jatha and walk from Kalasa to the protest venue on February 26. The meeting condemned the attempts of the forest department to clear poor and small cultivators on Inam land in Kalasa hobli.
