SSLC student hangs self

After an admonishment by his parents for poor performance in the school exam, Manjesh, an SSLC student, was found hanging from a ceiling fan at his house in Basaveshwarnagar on Wednesday night. According to the police, he had scored 33 marks in one of the subjects in the preparatory examination. 

His father Renuka Prasad, a construction contractor, reportedly reprimanded Manjesh for his poor performance. He had dinner with his father, mother Nanda and sister Manjeshwari and went to his room at 9.30 pm.

When the parents called Manjesh after sometime, there was no response from him. Alarmed, they broke open the door and found Manjesh hanging from the fan, said the police.

Garment worker ends life

Jyothi, 28, a garment worker, allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison at her relative’s house in Kamakshipalya on Wednesday night. She was a resident of Mutturaya extension at Sunkadakatte. She was married to Rangegowda 11 years ago and the couple have two children.

According to police, the couple were not in good terms for the last few years after Rangegowda allegedly started an affair with another woman. She parted ways with him a year ago and was staying at her relative Premamma’s house in the same area.

On Wednesday morning, Rangegowda went to Premamma’s house and quarrelled with his wife. However, Jyothi went to work after Rangegowda left the place. 

She consumed poison during the lunch break in the office and returned to Premamma’s house. She took ill by evening and was rushed to a nearby private hospital where she breathed her last. She did not leave behind any death note, said the police.

Premamma has stated in the complaint that Rangegowda’s affair with another woman and his harassment drove Jyothi to end her life.

Traffic curbs 

There will be traffic diversions in central business district and surrounding areas in view of the Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi's visit to the City on February 15. A mass demonstration has also been planned by Dalit Sangharsh Samiti on the same day.Vehicles coming from Goodshed Road have to move through LTP Road, take a left diversion near Upparpet police station, take a left turn and move on TB Road-Anand Rao Circle and JD(S) party office. 

Vehicles coming from the Mysore Road flyover should take a right turn near Briand Circle and move on Sultan Road, take a left turn at Rayan Circle, move towards Minto Circle, Medical College Circle, Market and Town Hall. Vehicles coming from KG Road should take a right turn at Upparpet Police Station and move on TB Road, Anand Rao Circle, Kino Theatre and move towards Malleswaram.
