Signals to automatically pave way for ambulances

Last Updated 14 February 2014, 20:52 IST

The State budget has proposed an Ambulance Signal Lights Synchronisation Scheme at a cost of Rs 72 crore for the City.

The scheme will be implemented under B Track project to reduce the time taken by ambulance to reach hospitals or patient’s place.

The traffic signals will be fitted with two devices – one with signal light and another with ambulance lights. They work on sensors and when an ambulance comes in the radius of 200 metres of a traffic signal, the green light will be on automatically, paving way for the ambulance.

“There are 350 signals in the City and we will implement the scheme in a phased manner,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (traffic and security) B Dayananda. The City will get two new police stations out of the 10 announced for the entire State, said Police Commissioner Raghavendra H Auradkar.

The purchase of modern aerial ladder platform, that can rise up to 90 metres, to combat fire at high-rise structures in the City also finds mention in the budget.
