Elections Commissioner Dayananda Disanayake pledged to hold free and fair election and said observers from the EU, the Commonwealth and the UN would monitor Sri Lanka’s presidential poll slated for January 26 next year.
The election, according to the poll analysts, is going to be hotly contested as former army chief Sarath Fonseka will take on incumbent President Mahinda Rajapaksa, who is seeking a second term.
