Keeping the evening alive

Last Updated 21 February 2014, 13:16 IST

The venue was packed and why not? It’s not always that Electronic Dance Music’s (EDM) young sensation Gareth Emery performs in the City. Hardcore EDM fans weren’t disappointed for he performed the choicest of songs from his latest album ‘Drive’, which is due to release in April.

The festival was to begin a little after sunset but it didn’t. The fans eagerly waited as Gareth hit the stage only after 8 pm but he kept the fans on their feet until the end. He made sure they screamed and swung to his tunes. Gareth explained that he began writing ‘Drive’ since his last piece of work ‘Concrete Angel’ did well. And he thinks that ‘Drive’ is thus far his best work. “I can honestly say I think it’s the best work of my career. It’s all about songs and melodies and a step away from EDM festival. A variety of styles represented.” Gareth said that his music is inspired by what he sees and hears around. “It could be a tune somewhere that could trigger the idea for an album,” he added. He also played tracks from his single ‘U feat’. Some of the other tracks he played were ‘Dynamite feat’, ‘Eye of The Storm feat’ and ‘Firebird’ just to mention a few.

Those who attended the show said that they couldn’t just stop dancing. And thanks to Gareth’s choice of music, people said they could get to hear tracks that were lively and truly refreshing. Joss, a dancer by profession, confessed that this was the first time that he heard Gareth perform live. “I am used to a different kind of music and hearing new tracks is a treat for any dancer. I am a trained dancer and I hit the dance floor and began doing my stuff. But Gareth didn’t seem to mind and he played fiercer tracks to keep the scene alive,” explained Joss.

Sindhujaa Kumar, a hardcore EDM fan, said that she has been following Gareth’s music since he was a DJ. “Gareth’s journey from a DJ to a full-fledged artiste is interesting. He has been working really hard and some of the songs that he played are so energising that you would definitely want to go out there and shake a leg or two. His music is certainly addictive,” said Sindhujaa. Johnson, another EDM fan, said, “I didn’t sit down for a second. That’s what Gareth’s music does to you. I particularly liked his album ‘Drive’. It not only reflects the changes in Gareth as a musician but also his changing taste for music.”
