Second phase of pulse polio on

As many as 2,87,331 children in the district, under the age of five years were administered with pulse polio drops, during the second phase drive, on Sunday. While Mysore city recorded 80 per cent turnout, Nanjangud taluk recorded cent percent turnout.

District Health Officer H T Puttaswamy said that the district had a target to immunize 3,13,161 children. About 91.75 per cent of this target has been covered. Transit centres were set-up at bus stands, Railway station, Chamundi Hill, Mysore Palace, Zoo and other places to widen the coverage.

Turnout in taluks: T Narasipur (96.18%), K R Nagar (93.2%), Hunsur (98.9%), Periyapatna (97%) and Mysore (80%). 

Puttaswamy added that the drive would continue for another three days in the city, polio drops will be administered on children who missed out on Sunday. Health department personnel will approach nurseries and administer the drops in another three days.

Railway station

The second phase of pulse polio drive was launched in the City Railway Station by Department of Health and Family Welfare and South Western Railway hospital. Dr Mahendra L, Senior Divisional Medical officer said that several polio booths were set up at different places in the City Railway station, Ashokapuram; at all the health units in the division; and in the Railway hospital, Mysore. 

Pulse polio activities will be carried out in the running trains too. The programme will be extended for three more days till February 26, at Mysore railway station.
