Three airlines have launched another discount sale, third in a month, to attract fliers. They are offering discounts up to 75 per cent.

Once again, SpiceJet started the war and was joined by Indigo and GoAir, travel portals said. SpiceJet announced a “Super Summer Sale”, offering up to 75 per cent discount on base fare and fuel surcharge, while GoAir announced a discount of up to 70 per cent.

“Sale started on Monday at 12 am and will end at 11:59 pm on Wednesday. Offer is valid for travel between April 1 and June 30. Seats made available for this offer are limited and availability depends on specific date and flight,” SpiceJet said. The airlines did not specify number seats on discount.

Discounted tickets from Bangalore to Delhi until April 15 were sold out by noon. Tickets for two of the three services from Delhi to Bangalore were also exhausted. The Delhi-Goa route was also sold out, said travel portals.

“SpiceJet and Indigo are providing discounts on their summer fares to stimulate the market and leverage advance bookings for the upcoming holiday season. SpiceJet has launched a three-day sale with discounts ranging from 35 to 75 per cent. We are already seeing strong a demand for destinations like Goa, Kerala, etc and bookings have more than doubled post the announcement,” a travel portal official said.

He said other airlines were expected to follow suit. SpiceJet was offering tickets from Bangalore to Delhi at Rs 3,857, while a last minute purchase would cost Rs 11,236.

From Bangalore, a ticket to Kolkata could cost Rs 3,374 as against a last minute purchase of Rs 10,770.

GoAir announced up to 70 per cent reduction in fares for bookings in the next three days, starting Monday, while IndiGo came out with discounted tickets on select sectors. The fare for the Delhi-Bangalore route under the scheme was Rs 1,000 less than first AC train fare and just Rs 600 more than 2AC fare.
