A day after Navy Chief Admiral D K Joshi's resignation over INS Sindhuratna mishap, the BJP Friday demanded that defence minister A K Antony should take moral responsibility for the spate of warship accidents and step down.

Finding enough ammunition to target the defence minister, the saffron party said the sorry state of Indian Navy is clear from the fact that there had been ten accidents in as many months when Antony is at the helm.

“The Naval Chief has resigned. In reality the buck stops at the door of the Defence Minister.

The nation is asking the Prime Minister and the Defence Minister why they are not disturbed by the loss of life and property as well as loss of face of the nation. The Defence Minister must take moral responsibility and resign,” BJP leader Prakash Javadekar said.

During Antony’s tenure, the military has been in a state of turmoil, the BJP said, pointing at the CBI FIR against former air force chief SP Tyagi for his involvement in the VIP chopper scam.
