JOIN USA 28-year-old Ph D student has alleged that her boyfriend raped her on the promise of marriage. The accused has been arrested from Ahmedabad in Gujarat, police said on Saturday.
The woman is a resident of west Delhi’s Paschim Vihar and is researching for PhD degree from Vadodara in Gujarat. According to police, she had approached local police on February 22.
“She had alleged rape by a man named Neerav Panchal,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Ranvir Singh.
In her complaint to police, the woman claimed that she was in a relationship with the 31-year-old, who works as a tourist guide. Recently, she raised the matter of marriage and was surprised when Neerav told her that he was already married.
Neerav later stopped talking to the woman and refused to respond to repeated calls.
Investigators said that the woman and Neerav had met each other several times in Gujarat and Delhi. “She claims that he raped her on the pretext of marrying her,” Singh added.
A case of rape was filed against Neerav on the basis of the complaint with Paschim Vihar police station. A team was sent to Ahmedabad and arrested Neerav late on Friday. “He is being brought to the capital on transit remand,” another police officer added.
