FB post of morphed picture draws flak

A Facebook post allegedly derogating Mother Mary and Infant Jesus has invited the ire of believers in the region.

One Lenard Fernandez has condemned the posting of the morphed pictures of Congress President Sonia Gandhi portrayed as Mother Mary and AAP leader Aravind Kejrival as Infant Jesus and several have commented against the attempt to spoil religious harmony.

It is learnt that the post which was noticed on Monday evening has already being shared by more than 13 persons in Facebook and tagged for 23 others. However, the photo was found removed later. District Congress Women President Veronica Cornelio told Deccan Herald that she was told by Kiran Crasta, president of Catholic Sabha, Udupi, that a derogatory picture hurting religious sentiments was on Facebook.

The photo was shared in the name of Prakash Malpe. She added that on knowing the incident, she immediately informed the matter to the superintendent of police. Meanwhile, International Federation of Karnataka Christian Association (IFKCA) district president Prashanth Jathanna flayed that the post was made in a bid to hurt religious sentiments.

He added that IFKCA will file a complaint regarding the matter. SP M B Boralingaiah responded that police have not received any written complaint and if one had given complaint action will be taken.
