Taking a dig at the BJP, Congress MLC Motamma said that how can the country prosper if the BJP gets power, as the party will be only busy thinking about jail, cases and getting bail for its leaders.

She was addressing the Congress party workers in a public meeting at Gonibeedu village in Mudigere taluk on Thursday. “The people in Karnataka voted for the BJP and gave power to their hand, looking  for a change.

But, the whole bunch of leaders including the chief minister spent their days behind the bars and neglected the development of the State. The fact that one of the ministers still continues to be inside the prison, reflects the corruption level during the BJP’s tenure,” she criticised.

Defending the Congress, she said that unlike BJP, the Congress has kept its parliamentarians like Raja and Kannhimoli away from politics as they faced corruption charges. The Congress also introduced Lokpal Bill to curb corruption, she said. MP candidate Jayaprakash Hegde spoke about various developmental programmes implemented for the welfare people during the Congress government in the Centre and the State.

MP campaigns in N R Pura

Speaking at an election rally held in the community Hall in Narasimharajapura on Tuesday, Jayaprakash Hegde said it was the Congress party which implemented people-friendly acts such as Food Security Act, Right to Education Act, Right to Information Act etc.

After the Central Government passed the food security bill, the Siddharamaiah government in Karnataka implemented the Anna Bhagya scheme in the State. More than 70 per cent of the beneficiaries have been provided the BPL cards.

While, when BJP was in power in the state, it tried to limit the beneficiaries of BPL cards. Congress government has increased the subsidy to milk producers by Rs 4 per litre. The loans and interests of Ashraya Yojane have been waived. The grants towards the Ashraya housing scheme has been increased from Rs 75,000 to Rs 1.25 lakh.

Measures have been taken to provide the caste and income certificates at schools itself. Efforts have been done to construction of Bhadravathi - N R Pura - Koppa - Sringeri Railway line. Also, measures have been taken to upgrade Tarikere - Mangalore district road to National highway, Hegde said.

BJP responsible for Malnad problem

The reason for the encroachment problem in Malnad area is the BJP government. When D V Sadananda Gowda was the Chief Minister, he brought the Land revenue Act 192(A), into effect.

It was he who submitted certificate to the court towards the clearing of encroachments. The committee appointed by the BJP lead NDA Government had submitted a report saying areca is injurious to health. Three MPs from Dakshina Kannada district were in the committee, who had also suggested the NABARD, commercial banks and Cooperative Societies through the report, not to provide loans for areca growers on these grounds.

The report related to the areca ban was submitted to the Supreme Court in 2011, when Sadananda Gowda was the MP. He did not utter a word in this regard, when he became the Chief Minister, Jayaprakash Hegde alleged.
