JOIN USA Delhi Police sub-inspector on Sunday night allegedly molested the 17-year-old daughter of a woman with whom he was in a live-in relationship. He was arrested on Monday morning and was also suspended.
Police said the accused Sajjan Kumar Chauhan was allegedly drunk at the time of the alleged incident. His ex-wife is an Assistant Commissioner of Police, and the couple separated many years ago.
The victim belongs to UP. Her father died while she was young and since 2003 she and her mother had been living with Chauhan at north Delhi’s Gulabi Bagh. Sajjan had called some friends to his house on Sunday night for dinner.
After they left, he allegedly had a few drinks. The victim alleged that after getting drunk, he first had a quarrel with her mother. He then allegedly molested her while she was sleeping.The victim approached police soon after the incident. The accused was charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and other sections of the Indian Penal Code.
After the victim’s mother shifted with Chauhan, he got her admitted to a boarding school in Sonepat. He later got her admission in a government school in Dilshad Garden, which she attended while staying with her aunt in the area.
“She had to quit school after completing class XI in 2012 as her mother fell sick often. Ever since then she was staying at home,” a police officer said. He said the victim is being counselled as she is in a state of shock.
