Delhi Congress leaders in Amethi for Rahul campaign

Last Updated 25 April 2014, 20:33 IST

About six former and current Congress MLAs from Delhi are in Amethi campaigning for party vice-president Rahul Gandhi for the coming parliamentary polls.

Former party MLA and city unit’s chief spokesperson Mukesh Sharma has been sent to Amethi. Sharma has been made the local media coordinator.

“Former party MLA Naseeb Singh, appointed as the observer of Uttar Pradesh, is in Amethi”, said a senior party leader.

“Party MLA Mateen Ahmad and Devender Yadav and former MLAs Anil Kumar and Rajesh Lilothia are also campaigning in Amethi,”  he said further.

Sources say many city Congress workers are camping in Amethi for party vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s campaign.

Gandhi is not present in Amethi and is busy doing rallies for the party across the country.

The party is keen to use all its might at Amethi for a remarkable victory for Rahul Gandhi.

Party’s city unit chief Arvinder Singh Lovely and Delhi Congress Mahila Morcha chief Onika Mehrotra were assigned for campaigning in Punjab. Lovely had returned to Delhi three days back and then assigned for campaigning in Lucknow.

“Delhi is the only state where Congress leaders have an experience of three consecutive victories in Assembly elections and two clean sweeps in parliamentary elections. This experience is helping them in election campaigns across the country,” the leader added.

Former Delhi education minister Kiran Walia is appointed as the observer for parliamentary elections in Mumbai. She had flown to Mumbai last week.

Party MLA Hasan Ahmad was also assigned as media co-ordinator of the campaign committee in Lucknow.

Hasan was allegedly attacked by some people during a press conference few days back.
The city Congress headquarters is deserted and many crucial decisions including selection of party dignitaries on the vacant posts have been postponed.
