Meet to address power issues during summer

With an eye on increasing the performance of power grids and facilitating inter regional transfers of power during peak summer season, Delhi’s power department is going to hold the next meeting of Northern Regional Power Committee in June.

The meeting will be chaired by principal secretary (power) of Delhi government Arun Goyal who has recently taken over as the chairperson of Northern Regional Power Committee for the year 2014-15.

“The meeting will facilitate inter-state and inter-regional transfer of power. It will undertake regional level operation analysis for improving grid performance. Maintaining proper voltage in the power supply to the national capital will also be discussed in the meeting,” Goyal said in a statement.

To check the summer preparedness of the power department, Goyal also reviewed all the three discoms and other power utilities of Delhi.

“On April 30, the peak power demand was surged to 4418 MW as the city’s temperature crossed 42 degrees. The total energy consumption was 90.56 Mega Units” said Goyal ,  “Last year, the maximum energy consumption on single day in the month of April was 81.25 Mega Units.

 For the first fortnight of May, the peak demand in projected 4900 MW. The discoms and other power utilities were asked to ensure uninterrupted power supply,” he further added in his statement.
