A 45-year-old woman and her 16-year-old daughter were found stabbed to death, while her son was critically injured at their house in west Delhi’s Tilak Nagar on Wednesday.

The lone survivor received multiple stab wounds and is battling for his life due to which police are yet to ascertain the sequence of events.

The deceased have been identified as Jasveer Kaur and her daughter Prabhjot, while 18-year-old Jaspal was found unconscious. Jasveer ran a beauty parlour at the house. Police said they were informed around 7.30 pm on Wednesday.

“The mother and daughter were found with multiple stab wounds and slit throat. Jaspal was taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital and received 70 stitches for stab wounds. It appears that the assailants had also tried to slit his throat,” said a police officer.

The three members of the family were last seen by neighbours late on Tuesday. They did not leave the apartment on Wednesday and the incident came to light when some children were playing on the terrace of the building. “The children somehow managed to see Jaspal lying in a pool of blood through the window of the flat,” the officer added. They raised an alarm after which locals informed police.

Police broke open the main gate of the two-room flat and found Jasveer and Prabhjot lying dead in a room. Both the bodies were covered with blankets, bedsheets and pillows. Jasveer was found unconscious with a ripped-open skull and a partly slit throat.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the incident could be a result of personal enmity as there were no signs of forced entry into the house or ransacking. Police said Jasveer’s husband Inderjeet had died around three years ago.
Inderjeet’s family members told police that Jasveer had re-married months after his death. However, they claim to be unaware about the identity of Jasveer’s second husband.

Second husband

“We are trying to establish the identity of the second husband. Neighbours revealed that a man in his early forties used to visit the house frequently,” the officer added. A sketch of the person has been made by police.

Alcohol bottles were also recovered from the house which possibly indicates the friendly entry of a man. “We are waiting to record Jaspal’s statement. He is unfit to say anything and could reveal the identity of the unidentified accused,” the officer said. A case of murder and attempt to murder under Indian Penal Code has been registered with Tilak Nagar police station.

Jaspal works as an air-conditioner mechanic, while Prabhjot was a class 12 student at a nearby government school. Jasveer and Prabhjot’s bodies were handed over to their family after post-mortem on Friday.
