The city Congress staged a protest in front of newly constructed Dilli Haat at Janakpuri for its delayed inauguration.

The party leaders have alleged local BJP MLA Jagdish Mukhi for the delay. The Haat was scheduled to be opened on May 29.

“The local MLA has stalled the inauguration of the much awaited and only Dilli Haat of west Delhi to get political mileage ,” said local Congress leader and former councillor Sanjey Puri.

“He wants the entire credit of construction of the Haat by inaugurating it despite of the fact that it was a brain child of former Congress government,” he added.

Puri staged a sit-in in front of the Haat with scores of his supporters and shouted slogan against Mukhi for halting the inauguration.

“The BJP leaders are planning to inaugurate it when their government gets formed in the city. Will they stay the inauguration of more than six months and wait for their government in the city? What kind of politics they are doing?” he added.

According to the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC), the inauguration was scheduled on May 29 with a four-day cultural programme and various artists including Punjabi pop singer Daler Mehndi were invited to perform.

However, the department kept mum on the delay of inauguration.Puri also challenged the BJP leaders for an open debate on the issue of delay in inauguration of the Haat.

“I challenge the BJP MLA and other BJP friends for an open debate on this issue
. I have all the records to prove who is guilty behind the delay. If I fail to prove my claims then I will quit politics,” he added.

The party is planning to complain with the central government over the alleged delay.
