The Court was hearing a PIL by Dr R Dwarkinath, Dr G K Veeresh, Dr K V Devraj and others, former Vice Chancellors of UAS, Bangalore, who had challenged the BBMP project linking Yeshwanthpur- Yelhanka to provide connectivity to Bangalore International Airport (BIA).

The division bench headed by Justice Manjula Chellur has also directed the BBMP to explain if it had obtained permission from the authorities concerned before starting the road construction.

The bench has also directed the BBMP to furnish records pertaining to the construction of the earlier road and proposed modified alignment of road when it started the construction.

The Court has directed the UAS to file an affidavit explaining the contention about the existence of the  footpath or any other pathway, which is now being widened by BBMP. The varsity has also been directed to explain the affect on the biodiversity due to the construction work. The bench has ordered notice to the State.

Plea dismissed

The High Court has dismissed a petition seeking reservation for persons with disability in the forth coming BBMP elections.  The division bench comprising Justice V Gopalagowda and Justice B V Nagarathna has dismissed the petition saying that the Court cannot direct the legislature to amend the Karnataka Municipal Act.

The petitioner, the Karnataka State Physically Handicapped Political Reservation Forum (KSPHPRF) had challenged Section 7 of Karnataka Municipal Council Act, which deals with reservations for elections but fails to mention about the reservation for the physically challenged.
