Man kills wife over suspicion

Strangles her, dumps body; misleads cops with missing complaint
Last Updated 24 June 2014, 20:42 IST

Suspecting his 23-year-old wife of infidelity, a 25-year-old man killed and dumped her body in a bag near Mayur Vihar Extension Metro station in east Delhi late on Saturday.

The body was found at his instance on Tuesday and he was arrested, police said.

Omprakash, a resident of Arun Enclave in Ghaziabad, had married Neetu in November 2013.

However, their relationship soured as Omprakash suspected Neetu of being involved in an extramarital affair due to which she had been staying at her parents’ house in east Delhi’s Kalyanpuri since June 8.

“On Saturday, Omprakash called Neetu and asked her to meet him in Noida. He hoped to solve their problems, but ended up strangling her in his car. Omprakash also tried to mislead police during investigation before confessing everything,” said Ajay Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East). Omprakash, an MBA who worked with Airtel, has no criminal history.

Around 10.30 pm on Saturday, Omprakash and Neetu’s father Dinesh had approached Kalyanpuri police station reporting that Neetu was missing since 11 am. As per Dinesh’s statement, Neetu told her mother that she was going to meet Omprakash.

Omprakash, however, denied that Neetu met him and even actively participated in the search operation.

A missing report was also lodged with Kalyanpuri police station. During investigation, police checked CCTV footage of Delhi Metro and found Neetu alone at Mayur Vihar Phase-I Metro station on Saturday. She was heading towards Noida and was seen with Omprakash at Noida Sector-18 station.

“This was major contradiction in Omprakash’s statement due to which the needle of suspicion pointed towards his involvement in Neetu’s disappearance,” Kumar added.

On being questioned with evidence, Omprakash confessed to have murdered her. He told police that he had disposed of the body at Yamuna Khadar in Mayur Vihar.

Omprakash claims quarrel had become routine between them soon after the marriage.
“Whenever he used to make calls to Neetu, her mobile phone was mostly found busy due to which he got suspicious about her character,” Kumar said.

Fed up with the arguments, Neetu left Omprakash’s house on June 8 and went to her parents’ house. On Saturday, Omprakash called Neetu and asked her to come to Noida Sector-18 station. He then took her to Atta Market in Noida Sector-18 in his Santo.

“They had another argument during the meeting after which Omprakash drove the car to an isolated place and strangled Neetu. Omprakash then disposed of the body in a bag at Yamuna Khadar,” the officer added.

At Omprakash’s instance, Neetu’s body was recovered from Yamuna Khadar. A case under sections 302 (murder) and 201 (destruction of evidence) has been registered against Omprakash.
