Young boy sacrificed in UP village

Alleged sacrifice of a 12-year old boy by a sadhu and his two disciples at a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Bhadohi district, about 250 kilometers from here, triggered large scale violence with a frenzied mob torching the houses of the culprits and damaging vehicles on Monday.

The horrific incident occurred at Tilanga village, according to the police sources here.

The boy, identified as Sumit, had gone missing last month. The family members after trying in vain to trace the boy, had registered a missing case and a hunt had been launched to trace him.

Sources said a few days later, the body of Sumit was recovered from a drain near the village.

The body had injury marks at several places and it appeared as if some organs had been taken out also.

During the investigation, police found evidence linking the murder to a tantrik identified as Baba Upendracharya alias Upendra Tewari , a resident of Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district. Tewari has an ashram at the village, where he often used to organise yagna (a ritual by fire).

The case was cracked on Sunday and police took the cheat and his two disciples in custody.

During interrogation, he revealed that he and his two disciples identified as Raghavendra and Shiv Bhuvan had killed the boy for the purpose of sacrificing him.
Divine powers

“The baba thought that he will get divine powers after the sacrifice of the boy,” police said on Sunday. Three others, who had helped the main accused in his work are absconding.

On Monday, an angry mob attacked the houses of the culprits and the ashram and torched them.

They also damaged several vehicles and a fire tender, which was sent to put out the fire.

Security personnel in strength had been deployed at the village to maintain order.
Earlier also, there have been incidents of children being sacrificed by the tantriks in different parts of the state.
