R'than Congress protests against price hike

Last Updated 09 July 2014, 20:13 IST

Rajasthan Congress held state-wide protests against the BJP for failing to control inflation and price rise in the country.

Congress leaders blamed the saffron party for betraying people and not giving any relief from inflation, despite tall claims before the elections.

The protests were staged at all district collectorate offices.

The Pradesh Congress Committee Chief Sachin Pilot and other senior leaders led the protest in Jaipur. Police used mild force on protesters who were trying to force their way inside the collectorate office. Later, Jaipur Collector Krishna Kunal came out of his chamber and received the memorandum at the entrance.

Sachin Pilot blamed the BJP for making promises to curb inflation immediately after coming to power but doing nothing so far. Despite the Congress having coalition governments at the Centre and states, it tried never tried to put extra burden on people, he said.

Pilot said BJP had no answer to the inflation problem.

“When we said international crude prices determine our fuel prices, they said it is bad fiscal management and bad policy making. But today ministers are giving the same reasons,” said Pilot.

“Be it inflation, rising fuel price or introducing FDI’s in the country, BJP is giving the same reasons what Congress had given. They just criticised Congress to gain sympathy and get votes, he added.
“We will continue to raise the voice of the people and perform our role of opposition,” he added.

Raje criticised

For the first time Congress targeted Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje over the proposal to change the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Gurantee Act (MGNREGA) into a scheme. Pilot said it is ironical that the state government is sending such a proposal instead of offering respite from inflation.

“MGNREGA is an important law through which people earn their livelihood. Now government wants to dilute it so that they do not get work. It is very disappointing. The MGNERGA was started by the UPA government and BJP must strengthen it further,” said Pilot.
