In real life also Aamir’s family owes a “lagaan” of Rs 277. 40  to the government on its ancestral land at a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi district, about 120 km from here.
According to the sources in the sub-divisional magistrate’s office in Shahabad, Aamir’s family had last paid the “lagaan” on its ancestral land in Akhtiyarpur village in 2004. Sources said Rs 800 had been paid then as tax on the land.

There had been a dispute in the division of the family property and there was a litigation when Aamir’s cousin Faisal Khan had approached a district court in Hardoi seeking his share in the ancestral property in 2008. The matter was settled out of court and Faisal was given some land and the rest of it had been registered in the name of a Trust, according to revenue officials.

There was also a dispute over the  payment of the stamp duty. And an investigation in this regard was still going on, sources said.

Aamir’s ancestral village has been awaiting its hero ever since it became known that he (Aamir) has been visiting various places in disguise to promote his film “3 Idiots.”
The villagers have already started preparations to welcome Aamir.
