Drunk man kills 'unfaithful' wife

A labourer, who suspected his wife’s fidelity, allegedly murdered her after coming home drunk in Suvarna Nagar under Peenya police station limits early on
Friday.

Police said the man, Venkatesh, came home drunk and began quarrelling with his wife, Mahadevamma, 40. He accused her of having an extramarital affair.

He soon became violent and bludgeoned her to death, the police added.

Hearing Mahadevamma’s screams, neighbours rushed to the house only to find her lying in a pool of blood.

They took her to a hospital where she was declared brought dead.

The neighbours told the police that the couple fought frequently over personal matters. They also complained about Venkatesh’s drinking habits.

Venkatesh, it is said, was not looking after the family. Fed up, Mahadevamma set up a small shop, selling vegetables and milk to support the family.

The couple’s three children were away at their grandmother’s home when the incident occurred, the police said. Venkatesh has been arrested.

Youth held for ‘rape’

A 22-year-old auto driver was arrested on the charge of abducting and raping a minor girl. The suspect, Pandiya Rajan, from S R Nagar, is alleged to have abducted and raped the pre-university student at a lodge on Thursday.

He was arrested after the victim’s parents lodged a complaint. The police said Rajan stayed next to the victim’s house. 

They had been courting each other for the last one year, and eloped to Tamil Nadu three days ago and got married.

On their return, they stayed at a lodge at the Majestic area where Rajan allegedly raped her. The victim went home on Thursday and narrated the incident to her parents who then made a complaint to the police.

Van mows down youth

A 21-year-old man was mowed  down by a van on Mysore Road, on Friday morning. The deceased, Shivakumar Swamy, from Magadi Road, was walking to work when the speeding van ran him over.

The police seized the vehicle and arrested the van driver, Rajesh.
