Nepotism alleged in appointments to Milk Union

Last Updated 16 August 2014, 19:21 IST

Aspirants to the post of ‘Extension Officer - Grade 3’ in Hassan Milk Union have alleged that there was no transparency in the selection process, and nepotism was rampant.

Besides, a couple of directors also have expressed their dissatisfaction over the recruitment process.

The Union had invited applications from eligible candidates for 23 posts on October 24, 2013 (corrigendum notice on October 31, 2013). The aspirants were invited for a written test on June 22, 2014, and for an interview on July 14. The final list of successful candidates was announced on July 30.

The directors, who wished to remain anonymous, said, candidates had applied for the available post from neighbouring districts also, but no information was available anywhere about the marks obtained by them.

“As per rules, a temporary list of successful candidates should have been announced, inviting objections, if any. But, the procedure has not been followed. The list was displayed only at the enclosure meant for security guards at the main entrance of the Union office.

Most of the selected persons had received their appointment letters before the list was displayed. Nobody knows on what basis the 23 candidates have been selected. However, one thing is certain that most of them come from a particular taluk,” they said.

When this newspaper contacted Managing Director Gopalaiah, he said, no information could be revealed to the media. No information is available on the Union’s website. “Any information about the number of applicants, the marks secured by the candidates and the criteria for selection could be revealed only if a candidate needs some clarification,” he said.

When asked how a candidate from other districts could get information about the recruitment process, Gopalaiah said, the candidates should either approach the Union office or contact over telephone. Meanwhile, a few unsuccessful candidates have sought an inquiry into the recruitment process.
