The Banavar police have registered a case of honour killing against a couple alleged to have murdered their daughter.

K M Lokesh and his wife Kavitha, residents of Koppalu village near Koranahalli in Banavar taluk, had complained to the police that their daughter, Kavya (20), had ended her life by hanging herself from a tree behind their house on August 11.

However, the post-mortem report issued by the JC Hospital in Arasikere, where the body was shifted by the police, contradicted her parents’ claim.

When the police interrogated the couple they admitted to the crime. They stated that they had shifted to Bangalore, after the Banavar police traced their daughter, who was reported missing after she was allegedly kidnapped by Murali from Haranahalli, a couple of years ago.

While they were employed in a garment factory in Bangalore, Kavya found a job in the Airtel office. However, they were upset over their daughter’s alleged waywardly behaviour and tried to correct her.

They alleged that Kavya used to bunk office and roam around with boys and even bring them home.
When they were informed that she had allegedly misused the company’s Rs 8.5 lakh, they even repayed the amount. Having had enough of it, they decided to finish her off and brought her to Koppalu on August 9.

They made her drink milk laced with sleeping pills and strangled her and informed the police that she had committed suicide.
