Assam to seek CBI probe into border issue

The Assam government will seek a CBI probe into the recent violence in its border with Nagaland, triggered by the alleged kidnapping of two youth by Naga militants on June 26.

Meeting the joint delegation of seven organisations at his official residence late on Friday, chief minister Tarun Gogoi also assured them that his government would give top priority to restoring peace in the border area and sending displaced people back home.

A statement revealed that the Assam chief minister also assured the delegation that the probe instituted by the government at the Additional Chief Secretary level and the judicial probe will also help get to the bottom of the truth in the matter, including the alleged police excesses.
