Race hots up for mayoral polls

With the tenures of Mayor B S Satyanarayana and Deputy Mayor Indira set to end on September 3, the race is on for the posts among BJP corporators.

Besides these two key posts, the corporators are vying for chairmanship of BBMP’s 12 standing committees and its members. BBMP Commissioner has written to Regional Commissioner for conduct of elections. This time the two key posts have been reserved for general category. With the notification issued, hectic lobbying has begun. 

It is learnt five prominent corporators  JP Park corporator B R Nanjundappa, Attur corporator K N Geetha Shashi Kumar, Dr Rajkumar Ward corporator Gangabyraiah, Moodalapalya corporator Shantha Kumari, Domlur corporator Geetha Vivekananda Reddy, and Shivanagar corporator G Manjunath, are eyeing the mayor’s post. Sources said chances of Nanjundappa, Geetha Shashikumar and G Manjunath are high. 

Corporators belonging to Vokkaliga community are lobbying hard persuading representatives of the party’s central leadership to buttress their case. Party insiders opine Manjunath and Geetha Shashikumar could be the dark horses.
