Garment firm manager held for raping staffer

Ravi, manager of a garment factory in Vinayak Nagar, Wilson Garden, was on Thursday arrested for raping a 17-year-old employee, after the victim lodged a complaint with the police. The accused had raped her on the factory premises on August 31.

The victim, a resident of Vivek Nagar, said in the complaint that Ravi, having taken her to his house on the pretext of teaching her tailoring skills, raped her. Learning about the incident, the victim’s parents counselled Ravi to marry their daughter, who refused stating his marriage had been fixed with another girl.

The furious parents then took the girl to Wilson Garden police station and registered a complaint against Ravi, who was subsequently arrested.

Both the victim and the accused were sent for medical examination and the rape was confirmed. Police have invoked the Pocso Act and sent Ravi to judicial custody.
