A 26-year-old woman’s semi-naked body was found wrapped in a cotton mattress in north-east Delhi’s Mansarovar Park on Wednesday.

Police have not ruled out the possibility of sexual assault before murder as 13 beer bottles were also recovered on the spot.

The victim lived with her husband and two children in a rented house in Durgapuri.Police said her body was found on the ground floor of an under-construction building in the area around 12.30 am.

“The woman was naked from the waist down and had multiple stab wounds,” said a police officer.

Her throat was slit and knife-inflicted injuries were also found in her abdomen, neck and fingers of the right hand.

Initially, nothing was found from her possession which could help establish her identity. The body was taken to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital for a post-mortem after a crime and forensic team examined the spot.

During a search, police recovered three bloodstained shirts and a salwar along with 13 beer bottles and namkeen packets.

“We have not ruled out the possibility of sexual assault before murder, but it would be clear only with the help of the victim’s post-mortem report,” the officer added.

After an initial probe, police said only people associated with construction there visited the building, which also had a security guard.

All of them were questioned. Police suspect involvement of a security guard deployed at the building as he is missing since the crime came to fore.

Prima facie, it is suspected that the woman was either kidnapped by a group of men and sexually assaulted in the building or she willingly went with friends to consume alcohol and snacks.

However, the brutal manner in which she was killed has stunned police.

“A stranger could have just stabbed her to death. In this case, the woman had several stab wounds on her neck itself. It may hint that killer knew her,” a source said.A case of murder has been filed with Mansarovar Park police station.

“No arrest has been made so far,” said R A Sanjeev, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East).

The woman had married an autorickshaw driver eight years ago.

He is from another community. The body was later identified by him, but he failed to explain the reason behind her presence in the building.

The couple has two sons, the eldest one aged around seven.
