7 boys drown in State

In the first incident, four boys aged between 8 and 12, met with a watery grave when they  went for a swim in the Krishna river at Babaladi village, about 60 km  from Bijapur.

The police have identified the victims as Vasudev (12), Parashuram (10),  Bhimangowda (10) and  Sadashiva (12).

The bodies of the boys have been sent for postmortem.

Pall of gloom

A pall of gloom descended on the village when the news of the tragedy reached the people.  Two of the boys had come to the village of their maternal uncle for vacation. They were to leave for their village on Sunday.

In another incident, Prameela, a 20-year-old woman, and Rajesh, a 13-year-old boy,  slipped into a tank at Malavoor on the outskirts of Mangalore while they were washing clothes.

In the third accident,  two boys who ventured to swim in a pond also met with a watery grave in the Kudutini village of Bellary district on Sunday. Basavaraj (16) and Manjunath (15) were the victim.

A case has been registered at Kudutini police station.
