JOIN USA House committee constituted to inquire into encroachment of lakes in and around Bangalore held its first meeting on Wednesday.
The 11-member committee headed by Congress MLA K B Koliwad will submit its report in three months.Koliwad said the panel would inquire into the issue threadbare and submit a comprehensive report. “The Lakshman Rau Committee submitted its recommendation on protection and rejuvenation of lakes in Bangalore in 1985.
But the recommendations have not been implemented so far,” Koliwad said. The panel was constituted following the Janata Dal (Secular) party raising the issue of encroachment of lakes in and around Bangalore in the Legislative Assembly in July and seeking an inquiry on the money spent on the development of water bodies. Kumaraswamy, who is a member of the House committee, attended Wednesday’s meeting.
