Budget reflects Modi's agenda on sanitation, sets aside funds for it

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s agenda has found place in the proposed Budget 2015-16 of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation on Tuesday.

Sanitation – part of a municipal corporation’s primary responsibilities – has been hyped up by the development work being proposed under the Swachh Bharat Mission in the Budget 2015-16.

Officials of the South Corporation has proposed Rs 10 crore for Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in Delhi and it has allocated Rs 1 crore for sanitation on private-public partnership model.

“Under Swachh Bharat Mission for proper disposal and processing of garbage, the Delhi Development Authority has been requested to allot land,” said the Budget proposal.

The civic agency has drafted Delhi sanitation by-laws and forwarded the same to the city government for its official nod, said Manish Gupta, Commissioner of South Corporation.

“For proper sanitation services, 800 rickshaw, 2,400 wheel barrow and two super sucker machine have been purchased. For proper garbage collection 254 auto tipper has also been pressed into service,” he added.

“A plan has been prepared to integrate sanitary management process in each zone, wherein Door to Door collection, solid waste management, silt and green waste will be collected.” said the Budget proposal.

Adarsh Village
The Budget also highlights on the Adarsh Village being developed in rural or urban areas in each ward. “Under Swachata Abhiyan, the ward that will maintain highest level of cleanliness in each zone will be awarded Rs 50 lakh,” said the proposal.

According to proposed Budget, 94 urinals will be constructed under PPP model in major markets and public space. “Under Swachh Bharat Mission, 800 new toilets in schools will be constructed,” it added.

“Also, new nursery classes to be opened in 82 municipal schools and uniforms will be provided to all schoolchildren instead of money in cash in next academic session,” it said.
