A 30-year-old man and his friend have been arrested for planning the murder of his uncle last week, police said on Wednesday.

Kamil and Mohammad Anis, who hail from Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat district, were nabbed over a probe after 45-year-old Shakir Ali was shot dead in north-east Delhi’s Shahdara.
On November 14, a PCR call was received at Shahdara police station reporting that two men had been shot near Shyam Lal College.

On the spot, police found that Shakir and his nephew Kamil were shot at in an attack by four men on two motorcycles.

“They were traveling in a car with Anis, but he escaped unhurt. Shakir and Kamil were rushed to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, where Shakir was declared brought dead,” said Rajendra Singh Sagar, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East).

Kamil had sustained a gunshot wound in his leg. On being chased, the men on the motorcycles had also fired at the staff of a PCR van and managed to escape.

Kamil’s statement was recorded by police in which he claimed that they had come to the capital from Baghpat to visit a relative’s house in east Delhi’s Krishna Nagar.
“They were returning to Baghpat when their Maruti Swift car was waylaid by the motorcyclists,” Sagar added.

Anis was driving the car, while Shakir was sitting with Kamil on the rear seat. Kamil had claimed that the attack was carried out by their village rivals.
“He named Aslam, Arsi and Iqbal as three of the attackers. It was alleged that Aslam and Arsi had opened fire,” Sagar said.

Kamil alleged that a property dispute could be the reason. However, during investigation, doubts were raised by the investigating team. On November 15, Shakir’s brothers Sammun and Anzad also raised suspicion over Kamil and his brothers.

“The attack was alleged to be a plan hatched by Kamil to take revenge from their village rivals by implicating them in murder case,” Sagar added.

On November 16, Kamil and Anis were interrogated during which Kamil confessed to have hatched the conspiracy with Anis and other family members.

Kamil runs a pipe-manufacturing factory at Apsara border, while Anis is a property dealer.
