Centre should file affidavit in SC against ban on Kambala: Poojary

Last Updated 24 November 2014, 19:01 IST

Former union minister B Janardhan Poojary has said that there is a provision for the Central government to file an affidavit in the Supreme Court on ban on Kambala, by making an amendment to the law and defining buffaloes as ‘performing animals.’

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, he said that as D V Sadananda Gowda is Minister for Law it would not be a difficult task for the ruling BJP to lift the ban on Kambala. “Those who spend money on Kambala can also use the money for training rural children in sports,” the former minister added.

No to ‘Kiss of Love’

Poojary said that the government should put the participants of ‘Kiss of Love’ behind bars.

“Under Cr PC Section 354 (A), they can be jailed for three years. Moral policing is against law, but ‘Kiss of love’ is an extreme move against moral policing. If schoolchildren and others continue ‘Kiss of Love’ in the coming days who will be held responsible?,” he asked.

BJP flayed

The senior Congress leader flayed the BJP for its decision to protest against tainted and nonperforming ministers in the State during Belagavi session on December 9.

“The BJP has no moral right to blame the Congress. A few of the BJP leaders are still serving jail. There are cases against former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, his son, daughter and son-in-law. There are many tainted leaders in BJP like Katta Subrahmanya Naidu, Somanna Murugesh Nirani, D V Sadananda Gowda, Jagadish Shetter etc,” he said.
“They are demanding for the resignation of Food and Civil Supplies Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao for land encroachment, though the land was allegedly encroached by his father, former CM late Gundu Rao. Union Law Minister D V Sadananda Gowda should have resigned as his son is facing allegations of rape. Whether our State leaders demanded their resignation?” he asked.

“If the BJP stages protest in the State, then the Congress will stage a protest against the Cabinet ministers in the Centre,” he added.  Poojary came down heavily against Subramanian Swamy who had said that Sonia Gandhi will face jail term by Christmas.

“He had done similar futile attempt against then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Swamy who points out the dynastic politics of Gandhi family should remember that there is dynastic politics in the BJP as well. Swamy has not won even a panchayat election in Tamil Nadu,” he said.  Mayor Mahabala Marla and others were present.
