Van hits bike, rider killed

A two-wheeler rider was killed and the pillion rider sustained severe injuries when a Tempo Traveller knocked down their bike at Shivanahalli junction on West of Chord Road on Wednesday midnight.

The victim was identified as N Raghavendra, 32, a real estate agent, while the injured Rajesh is battling for life at M S Ramaiah Hospital.

According to the police, the accident occurred at 12.30 am when Raghavendra and his friend Rajesh were returning home on a bike. 

A speeding Tempo Traveller driver lost control and collided with the bike. After hitting the two-wheeler, the vehicle also rammed a car injuring two people in it. The driver abandoned the vehicle and fled.

Held for damaging cars

Basaveshwarnagar police arrested two persons for allegedly damaging cars parked in front of houses in Basaveshwarnagar, Kamakshipalya, Rajajinagar and Magadi Road. S Manjunath, a resident of BEML Layout, and Nishanth of Basaveshwarnagar, are the arrested.

According to the police, they would consume liquor late in the night and indulge in such acts.

They had damaged eight cars, said the police. The police constituted a team
after the number of such incidents went up in Basaveshwarnagar.

Labourer found murdered

Sakriyappa, 35, a labourer, was found murdered near Shani Mahatma temple in Varthur on Thursday. 

He hailed from Yadgir district and had come to Bengaluru nine years ago. He was lived in a shed near Shani Mahatma temple along with his wife and four daughters, said the police.

He had gone to a bar along with three others and consumed liquor on Wednesday evening.

A few morning walkers noticed a body and informed the police. Sakriyappa’s wife and daughters had gone to their native place four days ago. 

Police suspect that the three persons with whom he consumed liquor might have killed him. The police are verifying CCTV footage from the bar to ascertain the identity of the three.
