Governor Vajubhai Vala has emphasised that the courts should deliver justice instead of becoming a mere courts of law.
He was speaking on Saturday after inaugurating the second mega Lok Adalat across the State. Peace in society can be restored by settling cases through Lok Adalat as dragging on cases for years will lead to enmity among people.
He added that Lok Adalats also help reduce pendency of cases in courts. He suggested the State government to set up a panel of retired judges to deal with such cases.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court, D H Waghela too endorsed the idea of redressing cases pre-litigation.
Justice Waghela said: “Settling cases pre-litigation would provide relief to judiciary and reduce burden on courts. It is high time people realise that there are cheaper, quicker and better ways to resolve disputes.”
