Spurned lover attacks nurse; inflicts injuries

N R Police have arrested a jilted cab driver on the charge of bid to murder his lover, on Saturday night.

Savithri, aged 27 years, daughter of late Kempaiah, Kollegal town, is the victim. She is undergoing treatment at Narayana Hrudayalaya here, for the injuries. Her lover, identified as Sreenivas who also suffered injuries in the melee, was treated at a hospital, before being arrested by the police.

Police said, Sreenivas and Savithri were in love for four years. Sreenivas, a cab driver from Bengaluru was besotted with Savithri, a staff nurse at Vikram Hospital, Yadavgiri, when he came to drop a patient at the hospital. The affair continued even after Savithri changed job and joined Narayana Hrudayalaya at Devanur Second Stage. Savithri also fell for Sreenivas’ overtures and was going steady with him, till she discovered that Sreenivas had nothing of his own. He was running a hired taxi and did not even own a house.

Savithri started ignoring Sreenivas since a few months. Meanwhile, Savithri came in contact with another youth, identified as Roshan. Sreenivas was furious to learn about the duo and went to Savithri’s paying guest accommodation at HUDCO Layout in Bannimantap around 8 pm. As she had gone outside, he was waiting for her and saw Roshan dropping Savithri a few yards away from the PG accommodation.

Sreenivas, who ran towards Savithri, wanted to talk to her, but was discouraged by Savithri, who wanted to call it off. Enraged, Sreenivas pulled out a knife from his pocket and attacked Savithri who suffered a minor cut on her neck and also on her right finger.
Roshan, who was waiting to see off Savithri till she reached the PG, rushed to her help and hit Sreenivas with a brick on his head, resulting in the latter’s fall. Soon, he informed the local police, who rushed to the spot and took Sreenivas into custody.

Savithri was rushed to St Joseph’s Hospital, before she was shifted to Narayana Hrudayalaya. A case has been registered.
