<p> What is different about this successful attempt is that this farmer has cultivated it has inter crop in his rubber plantation.<br /><br />Umesh, a farmer from Handaguni has grown tur dal in 1.50 acre of rubber plantation with assistant from Department of Agriculture. He had sown the seeds in June and he has reaped good quantity tur dal yield in December. <br /><br />If a farmer cultivates only tur dal, then he may require 8 kg of seeds for one acre land and expect yield of 5 quintal after spending over Rs 5,000. Umesh sow 3 kg of seeds in the rubber plantation and it is said that since it is a dicotyledon, it increases the fertility of the land. Since the cost of tur dal is good, Umesh is expecting an income of Rs 25,000 this year. <br /><br />Speaking to Deccan Herald, Umesh said that agriculture department officials had motivated him to grow tur dal in his farm. He bought seeds from the department and has spend about Rs 5,000 including labour, manure etc.<br /><br />Agriculture Officer T R Sathyanarayana said that farmers should stop depending on one crop and must take up multiple crops. <br /><br />All in all Umesh has shown the farmers of Malnad that even they can get their share of profit by growing tur dal.</p>
