Untimely rains damage crops

After holding a survey along with officials in the taluk, MLA Kumaraswamy assured that he will put effort to release compensation to farmers from the government. He said that he will visit Banakal, Binnadi and other surrounding villages to assess the crop loss due to rains. A comprehensive report will be submitted to the government, he added. Speaking to reporters, the MLA said that while a total of 2,000 acres of paddy fields were destroyed in taluk, the loss has been estimated at more than Rs 3 crore.

Harvested paddy heaps too were destroyed at many places. Survey will be completed scientifically and a factual report will be forwarded to the government to seek compensation, he added. Coffee crops were also destroyed in the taluk due to rains. Loss will be estimated and report will be sent to the Coffee Board, Central and State government, the MLA said.
